Alternative consumer dispute resolution

For low-value consumer disputes covered by Article 14 of Portuguese Law No. 24/96, the consumer's express choice may require arbitration or mediation through a legally authorised centre, under the applicable terms.

The centre's territorial and subject-matter jurisdiction depends on the location and service.

See the official list of alternative dispute resolution bodies on the Directorate-General for Consumer Affairs portal.

Legal framework

Relevant provisions include Portuguese Law No. 144/2015, as amended, and Law No. 24/96, particularly Article 14. Information on the applicable centre must reflect the activity and actual territorial jurisdiction.
